On behalf of New Covenant Life Church in Koblerville, I would like to ask for your help with our “Harvest Carnival,” scheduled for October 31st 2009.

Our Church is located in the former “Pacific Castle” building just across the street from Coral Ocean Point Hotel/Golf Course. We are a culturally and socially diverse body, with a large percentage of our congregation being bright and talented youth from all over the island.

This year we are celebrating our 2nd annual Harvest Carnival as an alternative to Halloween. Our Carnival will serve as an annual gathering for the entire community, and a safe alternative to trick or treat. We will have lots of free carnival games for the community as well as free entertainment for all.

I am kindly asking if you would you consider donating cash or prizes for our Carnival?

A current list of items we need donated include :
Drinks (Soda, Juice, Water)
Candies (Prizes for booths/Trick-or-Trunk)
Prizes (for free game booths)
Balloons (All sizes)

Hundreds of volunteers throughout the CNMI are expected to clean their beaches next month as part of the world’s largest volunteer cleanup effort.The 24th annual International Coastal Cleanup is Saturday, September 19 – from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate. Saipan and Tinian are scheduled to participate on September 19, and Rota’s event is on Friday September 18.On Saipan, a number of groups have already adopted beaches, including South Lao Lao and Cow Town, according to the Division of Environmental Quality. However, dozens of other beaches still need volunteers.Several groups are working together to coordinate events on Saipan and Tinian, and the Coastal Resources Management Office is taking the lead on Rota.The International Coastal Cleanup is the world's largest volunteer effort to help protect the ocean, according to the Ocean Conservancy, a nonprofit organization dedicated solely to protecting ocean environments and marine life.Last year, nearly 400,000 volunteers hit their local beaches, lakes, and rivers with a common mission of improving the health of the ocean and waterways. On one day, they removed and tallied 6.8 million pounds of debris, from 6,485 sites in 100 countries and 42 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.DEQ will retrieve and properly dispose of the trash collected from the cleanup on Saipan.Cleanup supplies – garbage bags and gloves which were purchased with funds from a generous Bridge Capital donation – will be available at DEQ the week before the cleanup.Interested participants are encouraged to sign up for the event so that organizers may arrange for proper pick up and disposal of garbage.To request a signup sheet for Saipan or Tinian, contact Lisa Huynh Eller, Olivia Tebuteb or Carlos Ketebengang, DEQ, at 664-8500 or email - lisaeller@deq.gov.mp. The Return of the Children

The kids are back!!! After spending almost the entire summer in the states with their father, they are back..and life is beautiful! I honestly missed the sound of them arguing, running through the house, throwing the ball at the wall, playing their uke at the wee hours of the morning, blasting their ASWAD all day long and most especially I missed the piercing yells of "MOMMA" every time they needed something.

and in somewhat related news..in approximately 36 days I will be the CNMI's latest GLAM-MA!Can't wait, can't wait..baby Zion on the way!

They say talking about your problems is good therapy..I'm not much of a talker. Not much of a writer either...

Today was a difficult day for me. I'm pretty sure most of you saw the local news paper. For those who didn't or haven't, Its been a pretty crazy last couple of months for me. Sometimes people have a strange way of dealing with their emotions. And sometimes, they can't deal with them at all. In *his* case, he chose to deal with them in the worst possible way by stalking me, harassing me and threatening to kill me. To the point of me having to obtain a restraining order and eventually having to have that order enforced. It's a difficult thing to do..living in fear, especially when the person putting you through it is someone you once shared a life with. It's exhausting to say the least. It's even more difficult taking the steps needed to end the fear and put that person behind bars. I have gone through every emotion in the book and then some over the past few month..

Today I had to face him in court at his arraignment. I didn't think I could do it. I even thought it was best if I didn't appear. He has had two weeks in jail now to get me out of his system..detox. Wouldn't seeing me just bring back all the emotions again? But they said it was best for me to appear, to put a face to the "victim". So I did as instructed. I unenthusiastically showed up to court. It was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. The minute they called my case, my heart began to race and my legs shook like a leaf. The sheriff opened the side door and out he came in the orange jumpsuit with chains around his waist, legs and hands. He was so thin and his facial hair had grown out. He looked nothing like the person I use to know. It was very sad. I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Even after everything he had put me through...I felt bad. How could someone let themselves get to that point in their life..how could someone throw away everything they had and end up shackled and locked up.. I couldn't understand..I kept questioning myself and wondering if I was somehow responsible for what this man had turned in to..Everyone says, don't blame yourself, you did nothing wrong...or it's not your fault, don't feel guilty...but truth is..as much as you know those words are true..you still question yourself and your previous actions..at least I did.

The judge then asked him how he pled (there were 7 counts against him)...to my shock..he plead NOT GUILTY to all 7 counts...How could he plead not guilty???? How could he sit there knowing that he was guilty of everything he was charged for and even more...How could he do it?? I just didn't understand!!! Feeling sorry for him soon turned into anger..after all this he still couldn't stop lying.

The judge then set a status conference date for 30 days from today..which means it's not over...how could it not be over...why? why couldn't he plead guilty and just take the punishment like a man. Put an end to all of this so we can both get on with our lives???? Why?? That would be too easy? Why do I have to go to another court date..to see him again..and possibly..most like a trial..why??

As he was about to leave the court room, the judge asked him if he had any family in the court he would like to talk to..He turned and glance at my mother and brother who were sitting in the back row for support...then he looked straight at me with this peircing look..as if he could kill me with his eyes..It was scary to say the least..he said "no" and walked out..I sat there and shook like a leaf...despite the handcuffs and leg restraints..despite the fact that he was going back to prison..I was scared...

Once he was out of sight, I broke down and cried...

30 days from now I will be back in court to go through this all over again..

as I left the court house I was reminded of something my mom had said to me many times before when I would find myself in troubling situations..."this too shall pass"

Yeah..it will..and I will we be ok...OK and much wiser..

I have gone through some major changes lately..After a 5 year relationship, two of those years being engaged, I have decided my life was not going in the direction I wanted it to be going in and I called it off...I won't go into details, but suffice to say I believe I have made the right decision.

I took a break from blogging to get through that roller coaster ride..and for the most part I'm done with it...so I'm back!!!

I know you missed me..he he he :) I missed the blogger world too!!!

Single life has led me to some great discoveries...most of which you guys already knew about, like God Father's and their very addictive peanuts....I've also discovered your never to old to get your groove on as I'm always surrounded on the dance floor at Flair's by a bunch of 30 somethings getting down to "Apple Bottom Jeans, boots with the fur, the whole club is looking at her"...he he he

Needless to say, I am having fun...the purpose of life..to enjoy every minute of it!

1. I'm addicted to sunflower seeds.

2. The first boyfriend to break up with me did so because I told his best friend (who was also suppose to be my friend) that my boyfriend didn't know how to kiss and he went and told on me.
3. I eloped shortly after I turned 18.

4. I take an average of 3 showers or baths a day, but sometimes more because I love the feeling of warm water on my skin.

5. If I could live anywhere in the world right now, I would want to live in Palau.

6. A Mormon missionary packed me on the back of my moped once and I fell off as we were going down beach road. He didn't notice and dragged me several hundred feet. I still have a scar above my knee from that accident.

7. I was on the cover of the old Saipan Beach Press back in 1984 wearing a mono-kini. That was the first and last time I ever wore one of those.

(Note: Mom, this is a mono-kini in case you were wondering. However, that is obviously NOT my Saipan Beach Press cover..he he)

8. I know how to say bad words in 5 languages (Japanese, Tagalog, English, Chamorro & Palauan)

9. I HATE McDonald's hamburgers.

10. I wore blue contact lenses for two years straight and only took them off when I was alone in the bathroom to clean them and then I would put them back in. The guy I was dating at the time never knew that my eyes were really green. He still doesn't.

11. I have never broken a bone or had a serious illness, but I have had 5 major surgeries.

12. I went to Japan as an exchange student. I loved it so much that I seriously contemplated running away at the airport when it was time to come home. Lucky I only had about $10 left on me other wise I might have made a run for it.

13. I currently have 5 tattoo's and plans to get at least two more.

14. I was tipped $100 for serving coffee to a Yakuza once. When he returned to Japan he sent hundreds of dollars of shoes and clothes for me to the Hotel where I worked. He even sent flowers to my mother's place of employment in hopes she would grant him permission to date me. I was 15 years old at the time. Needless to say my mother refused and the hotel management had to give him a stern warning to leave me alone.

15. I had a major crush on Barry Gibb of the BeeGee's when I was in the 6th grade. I was positive I would marry him some day...LOL

16. I went skinny dipping with a group of friends once and someone stole all my clothes. I still wonder to this day who it was and what they did with my clothes.

17. My biggest fear in life is passing away before I have finished raising my kids.

18. My second biggest fear is Cockroaches. I am deathly afraid of them!!!

A Scrapper's Dream

I'm talking about the CRICUT of course..Most of you have probably seen the CRICUT infomercial. If you haven't, It's the personal cutting system that cuts everything from lettering for cards,banners, stickers, scrapbooking, designs, etc.. The commercial advertises a 30 day trial for $33.00..I've watched that infomercial a dozen times..drooling over the CRICUT and its amazing cutting skills (which I do not possess..ha ha) Unfortunately what they don't tell you in the informercial that should you wish to keep the machine after the 30 day trial you will be billed a zillion bazillion dollars..ok, maybe not that much, but much more than I could afford or would spend on myself. So I was super d duper happy when mom got me one for my Birthday!!!
I haven't really had much chance to try it out yet. My daughter Mirika actually got to "break it in" when I let her use it to do her Science project over the weekend..

Her project came out AWESOME! Very neat and professional looking. She said her classmates and teacher were very impressed and asked her how she did it..to which she bragged "My mom has a cricut". I'm pretty sure most of them had no idea what a CRICUT was and probably spent the next few minutes wondering how Miri's moms pet cricket cut out the lettering..he he

Here's a picture of Mirika posing with her project. Savali & Ulu have been checking out my machine too. They have both cut there name out in several different sizes and fonts about 100 times..ha ha...If I knew it would keep them that amused, I would have got them one for Christmas..: )~ Hopefully I will find some free time to play with my CRICUT this weekend and make some new cards to update my Card Shark page... I did try cutting a couple things out ..

Youth Take Over Day..

It was Youth Take Over Day this past Sunday at church and the kids did an outstanding job!
Alana led the worship team which consisted of 4 brother/sister sets (Alana & Jude in the picture)

Issai spoke on tithes and offerings and did the collection.

Imelda's son (sorry don't remember his name), Levi Sinclair, and Alana did the Communion.

Little Ms. Ashley Shoemake hung out and enjoyed.

Tia did the announcements.

Ryan manned the sound booth and the power point.

This little girl who is only 8 years old and new to the church so I didn't get her name yet, played the bass guitar in the band...WOW!

Herica, Jasmin and another new girl were back up singers for the worship team.

Issai played guitar...and sang.

Vali claimed he couldn't do anything because he had a "broken heart" (see bandage)..ha ha..I think he was just making excuses..

Trini helped with Children's church.

Serena gave the sermon.

She did a great job!

and Garret prayed for the Children.

The youth did an awesome job! It was a fun day and it was really inspiring to see how the kids took charge and did so well. I have a hard time speaking in front of crowds and they took the microphone and none of them looked the least bit nervous. I was proud of all of them!

When we got home from church, the boys decided to continue with the take over so they cleaned the house and cooked a REALLY delicious lunch. They made fried short ribs and pork chops, adobo short ribs, kimchi and rice. YUM! All I had to do was kick back and relax and enjoy....I think we should do this Youth Take Over thing more often!

OMG! The tools of torture were laid out before me...I wanted to scream and run when I saw this table...

They said the anesthesia would be the worst part of it...ummmm...NOT! NOT! NOT!

The almost an hour of pulling, more anesthesia, pulling some more, more anesthesia, and what felt like the ripping apart of my tooth from every nerve in my gum..was the worst part of it!!!!

If you never had a tooth pulled as a child...your going to LOVE having your first tooth pulled as an adult. NOT!NOT!NOT!

In all actuality I'm a super big baby when it comes to needles and dentists...I shook like a leaf the entire time which probably made it twice as hard for the good doctor..He did a really great job!!! His constant reminders that I was "doing great" no matter how much he was lying ..were very comforting! I do recall half way through asking him, "am I still alive"...he must have thought I was the biggest baby ever! Little does he know I have three children and 5 tattoo's and I was still deathly afraid of his little needle..ha ha..But I survived and although I was starving to death the whole day yesterday and didn't get to sleep till 3am..I made it to work today and I feel sooooooooo much better!

A Christmas Story...

I'm not sure how to go about telling this story or how much I should tell ( I don't want to embarrass anyone), but It's a story I wanted to share because the person involved really touched my heart and the heart of 4 really cool kids!

I guess I will start by telling you a bit about the 4 cool kids. For about 4-5 months now, I've had what might be considered 5 new foster kids/young adults. I consider them my "kids". 4 of them I met through my church, NCLC and the other is my my oldest daughters best friend.They were youths in the church who were having family issues at home or for one reason or another were staying with other church members and somehow ended up migrating and staying with me.

I wont go into details on their family issues, but I will say they ranged from alcoholic parents, physical abuse and just general family issues such as dealing with step parents or in this case, not being able to deal with the step-parents.

When I first met these kids, I only knew them through church and I was hooked on them from day one. They were all so hard working, dedicated kids. They would show up at church every weekend to bush cut, clean..do just about anything that needed to be done. No complaints, no questions asked. Whatever the pastor needed them to do..they were there to help. Which to me was impressive since getting my oldest daughter (who is the same age) just to do the dishes was a task in itself! ha ha..

The more I got to know these kids, the more they grew on me..and eventually, they all came to live with me..Jude and Ryan pretty much 24/7, Garett and Iunis stay with me on weekends and holidays or weekdays when things are just unbearable at home, and Triny is with me most week days and weekends, but she does go home to help her mom out cleaning their house occasionally.
All the kids had been really helping out around the house (my house) cooking, cleaning, doing laundry..whatever they can do to pitch in and help ease my load..and I really appreciate it! I really wanted to do something special for them for Christmas. Just before Christmas I had a conversation with one of the boys and I asked him what he wanted for Christmas. His response to me took me by surprise and really touched my heart. He said, "Ms. you already have given us more than we could ask for, I don't need anything else."

A few days later my oldest daughter and I were talking and I asked her what she thought I should get them for Christmas. She said she had also been talking to the boys to get an idea of what they wanted and one of them told her he had never received a Christmas gift ever. I soon came to find out that story was true for most of them..

To make a long story short (ok, it's a bit too late for that..ha ha) I decided I would do my best to get them a gift I knew ALL of them would love! I'll be honest, times have been really tough for me lately. With a household that went from 4 to 10 in a matter of months and with only myself being employed it's definitely been a challenge. But I wanted so bad to get them a good Christmas gift. I eventually decided that I would try to get Ryan, Iunis and Triny and Tia cell phones, Garett a CD player and Jude an Ipod or MP4 player.

As luck would have it, I won a nice portable CD player at my company Christmas Party. My prayer had been answered for Garett.

I then set out to get the cell phones. I had seen in the paper an add for some pretty nice phones that ran about $90 each. Quite a bit of $$ when your looking for 4. But I recall one of the boys talking to my daughter about that particular phone and I knew they would LOVE to have one.

As soon as I received my Christmas bonus, I began calling the phone company to see if the phones were available and where and when I could get 4 . For some reason, two days of trying to get through was proving very unfruitful and I kept getting answering machine after answering machine. It was a couple days before Christmas so I figured that everyone must be busy and I worried that I might just be out of luck. Then I remembered a fellow blogger who works for the phone company...BRAD!

After a bit of phone tag, I got through to him and told him I was looking for some phones for Christmas. Four Katana's to be exact. He asked me who they were for and I explained to him about my church "kids". He immediately flew into action, made some phone calls and before I knew it he had 4 Katana phones ready for me at a SUPER great price and on top of that he threw in a bunch of phone cards to get the kids started off with their new phones. When I went down to pick up the phones and Brad told me about the discount and everything, I swear I wanted to cry!!!! He didn't know it, but the discount he gave me would allow me to buy the gift my youngest daughter Mirika had wanted for Christmas, and without that discount, I would not have been able to get for her.

I took the phones home and wrapped them up in all different sized boxes to throw the kids off of what could be inside. I could tell they were all so excited that they would be getting a gift this Christmas. I was hard for me to wait for Christmas Eve to come so I could let them open their gifts....I think I was twice as excited as they were!

Christmas Eve eventually came and that night before we went to church we all sat around the Christmas tree. Ulu gave a speech to the kids about how much they meant to us and have been a blessing in our lives and how much we cared about them..Then one by one I passed out their boxes. The looks on their faces as they opened up their gifts is something that I just can't put into words....

I did however, take some pictures and a picture is worth a thousand words..

So with that, I just want to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to Brad for helping to make 4 very cool kids super-d-duper Happy on Christmas! Oh, and of course for helping to make my daughter Mirika (who was not with me Christmas Eve) but who got to open the Nintendo DS Lite she really wanted Christmas Morning...You rock!

I have three licenses in my wallet..why? Because I find it so amusing that
whatever you tell the people at BMV regarding the information on your license, they
do not question you at all. As you can see in one license I stated I had Blue eyes and Brown hair, in another I have Green eyes and Auburn hair..and just to be funny, on my current license I stated that my hair color was "Mocha" and they actually typed that right on there...he he he!

My nose looks HUGE and they chopped of half of my head and my Mocha hair..he he

Staying Alive and Healthy and being able to support ALL my kids without having to put any of them up for adoption, up for sale or sell them into slavery..ha ha ha..just kidding!

Not loosing as much weight as I wanted too in the Body Success Challenge.

No.

I didn't really buy anything for myself last year.

Savali & Mirika for being on the A honor roll consistently throughout the year and making me proud!

Food..with 10 mouths to feed..it went to food, food, food!

Giving all the kids exactly what they wanted for Christmas (thanks in large part to the help of Brad Ruzalla)

Another one bites the dust...

Last night CUC was doing some work on the power lines for the new Kagman Joeten, (which is now open by the way) so they shut off the power to a block of houses in the area..mine included.
Two hours later when they finally turned the power back on we had this huge power surge then the power blacked out again, then 2 seconds later it surged back on again. So I waited a good 3 minutes and then turned back on my tv and BOOM! a green flash shot across the screen. I freaked and turned it off again... I waited a few minutes and turned it on..only to find the picture was really yellow, there was a loud popping noise coming from it and the picture was popping on and off....UGHHHHHHHHHHH! This is the second tv that has been ruined by CUC power surges...I'm so pissed off! Anddddddddd to top it off I got a notice in the mail that If I don't pay my power bill by CHRISTMAS EVE I will be disconnected....*sigh*

Make Cupcakes Not War!

If I could be doing anything else in the world besides being an Insurance Agent right now, I would probably own my own Cupcake Bake Shop...and totally specialize in just making cupcakes! I Love love love making, decorating and eating..ha ha..cupcakes! I just wish I had more time in my schedule to bake..Last night on the Food Network they had the "Cupcake Challenge". I was pretty awesome! The guy I wanted to win didn't due to a technicality (his cupcake presentation didn't meet the required 3 feet in height). The judges really liked him too but he lost the $10,000.00 Grand Prize because he was 3 inches short.

This was one of the contestants that didn't win..her terracotta pot was made of cake..That was pretty cool.
This was the underwater coral scene I wanted to win. All the coral flowers are made of cupcakes which have been decorated to look like coral..I wish I had a better picture.
This was the winning entry, which was really really cool also! She has a dragon breathing down on the different pillars and instead of fire coming out of his mouth it was really cool flowers which were actually the top decorations of the cupcakes...

Our Harvest Carnival was a HUGE success with over 500 people in attendance throughout the night...There were free carnival games for all where if you win, you get tickets which you trade at the prize booth for some pretty awesome prizes. There was free entertainment all night long with bands from Life in the Son, CornerStone Church and of course our very own NCLC worship team on stage. There was a free bouncy house, face painting and children's corner where the kids could color and design their own bags for their candy..There was TONSSSSSSS of free candy and a .50 cent food booth were you could get a hot dog, drink, lumpia, coco, cupcakes, cookies and a whole lot more for .50 cents...I maned the prize booth the entire night and I had so much fun!!!!

R.I.P. Grandpa..

On October 3rd of last year I wrote a post on my Grandfather, Glen Dale
titled "My Grandfather is a living treasure".

Yesterday I received the news that my Grandfather had passed away on October 15th..He was 93 years old and would have turned 94 on the 24th of this month. While I am happy that he is at peace now and together with the love of his life, his wife of over 60 plus years, Ruth, who passed away back in 2005...I will cherish the memories of my trip to meet him for the 1st time last year in my heart forever, and I will miss him dearly!!!! I LOVE YOU GRANDPA!

PS: Sorry I missed all of the "Friends of the Monument" activities yesterday..I was really down and out about my Grandfather and in no condition to attend..I did wear orange yesterday though..and I heard you all did an AWESOME job!!!

I tagged along to Young Adult Bible Study over @ the YWAM base in Capital Hill last Friday and I'm glad I did. It was great to see so many kids coming together to participate in something good!

Vei (Their teacher) and Tia..she enjoyed her first bible study.
Vei deep in thought and Ryan...he's a really great guy! He has inspired so many other boys who were once trouble makers to change their ways...and he's a super hard worker too!
Mrs. Denise sings some songs with the boys before bible study begins.

Vei gave a great talk on "Fear of God" and "sin".

If your a young adult (13-21) and your interested in joining in, Young Adult Bible study is every Friday from 7-9pm. This weeks bible study will be at the NCLC Church in Koblerville (former Pacific Castle Building)..

Making Progress!

Thanks to a GENEROUS donation by beautify CNMI we have been making Great progress on the renovations and restoration of the former Pacific Castle Building in Koblerville.
The members of NCLC and in particular, the youth, have been working so hard the last couple months to get the grounds cleaned up, trees planted, and now the building painted...here are some pictures

after we had started water blasting and scrapping away the old paint..what a monumental task in itself!!!
Doesn't look like much now...but we have big plans!

It seems like I'm always asking for things lately...I have never been know as a person who asks for donations or help (unless your name is "mom"..ha ha) But lately
since I have gotten involved in some extracaricular activities, Ive found myself
asking for more help than usual...and I am so gratefull that each time I have
asked I have been totally blessed by someone who was able to assist!!!!

So anyway, since I seem to be on a roll, I'm going to come right out and ASK again..Our Church is having a Harvest Carnival on October 31st. There will be a "trick or trunk" for the children, Free carnival games for the kids, Face painting booth, and Live entertainment. Everything will be free except for a small food booth that will be selling hotdogs, popcorn and drinks at a very minimal cost.

This will be the first annual Harvest Carnival for our church. We are hoping to have a good turn out and help aliviate some of the Trick or Treat stress from Tototville.

Anyway, in order to pull this off we need quite a few donations and I have gratiously
accepted to be the Chairperson for the Solicitation and Donation Committee...

Follows is a list of items we really, really need for our carnival. If anyone can help, even in the smallest way, I would soooooo appreciate it. Even if you can't donate yourself, if you can pass the word on to others or point me in the direction of someone you may know who can, I woudl so appreciate it!!!!

This past Sunday my friend Kathy invited me to her pool for a BBQ. She doesn't attend the church I do, but she said I could bring some of the youth from our church. We all had an awesome, awesome time!!!

As you can see, the boys enjoyed the pool so very much! They loved the water slide and they loved jumping off the rocks into the water.
For some of them it was their first time to try a water slide. I even tried it...but I sure ain't posting any pictures of that..ha ha ha
We really had fun!!! And it was so super gracious of Kathy to invite all of us over. The BBQ was off the hook!! Kathy and her family enjoyed the day just as much and invited us back next Sunday..Thanks again Kathy!!!! I am soooo looking forward to next Sunday!!

The final weigh in for the Body Success Challenge was this Sunday. I must say I felt a lot more confident in my shorts and tank top then I felt when the initial "BEFORE" picture was taken and I jetted as fast as I could from the little dressing room straight into the aerobics room where the pictures were being taken hoping no one would see me : )

Well, the results (drum roll please)

I dropped 20.5 lbs...5 inches off my waist and one inch off my thighs and an inch off my calf...

Not bad! My goal was 30lbs, but I'm really happy with my results and even though the contest is over, I'm not done yet...I hope to drop another 20 before my next B-day.

I don't know if I won any of the prizes yet..the winners will be announced next weekend..but my family thinks I'm a winner already and thet's all that really matters

I haven't been blogging much lately...Work for one has been keeping me really busy! We are almost done with the Gov. Group Life open enrollment. If your a Gov. employee and you haven't enrolled yet, you better get to it..you only have till Sept. 30. After that you will be subject to medical underwriting and the rates for the optional coverages will go up.

Another reason I don't have much to blog about is that things have just gotten so depressing...I have another $900 plus power bill and I just can't understand why..With power out most of the day and night you would think it would go down...but no such luck.

The whole situation with the Marine Monument is depressing too! I watched the news last night and was so disappointed and disgusted!!! I wanted to scream! Do these people have a clue????? How long does or will it take them to figure out that we WANT...we NEED to protect our oceans!!! I'm mad at myself because I actually voted for one of them...thinking that he would be diffrent..he would stand up for what is right...but nooooooooooo, I was wrong! He will never get my vote ever again!

On the brighter side, Ive been doing a lot of work with our church and the youth and Im really enjoying it...we have a big 10th anniversary coming up and we will celebrate it with a Harvest carnival for the community. Im excited and it looks like our prayers may be answered and our church will be painted before that all goes down. We have been busy cleaning the property and planting trees...I will post some pictures soon.

The end of the Body Success Challenge aka Saipan's Biggest Looser is this Sunday..the final weigh in...I don't think I won, actually I have no clue how many pounds I dropped the last 3 months...I know I dropped some, and I have definitely learned to eat much healthier so I have accomplished my goals. I haven't weighed myself since the initial weigh in, but I would estimate I have dropped a good 15 lbs...about half of my goal...I can't wait till Sunday to find out...I will let you all know how I did...win or loose, it was worth it just to start eating healthier.

This Sunday our church, New Covenant Christian Church, will be hosting a BBQ get together..Everyone is welcome to come..Old members, new members, non-members who might be curious or interested, non members who aren't interest or curious but just want to hang out with cool people :) Our church is located in the former Pacific Castle Building in Koblerville across from COP. It a very humble church, but we have a GREAT congregation and definitely the BEST worship team (music) on island! Your welcome to attend church which starts at 10am or you can just come by the BBQ which will start around 1pm. There will be good food and fun games for all. We usually get enough people for a good game of volleyball and if volleyballs not your thing, we will definitely have a good game of "killer" going on :)~ Hope to see you there!

Dr. Jack's - I'Denni

Dr. Jack's has to be one of Saipan's best kept secrets. It's tucked away just off the main road (capital hill road to Kagman is what I call it)in I'Denni.

Last night when I got home from work, the power was off (of course) so I decided that instead of trying to cook soba on a gas stove in the dark, I would take the family out to eat. We decided to try Dr. Jack's since we had passed it many times and each time would say "We should go eat there sometime"..ha ha

I'm so glad we did! The food was DELICIOUS! We ordered the Calamari, Fresh Tuna Kelaquin, Crab Cakes & Chicken Kelaquin with Titiyas. Everything was made to order (which took a bit longer than most restaurants, but was well worth the wait) and was so fresh!

The Tuna Kelaquin had to be the best I've ever had on island! The crab cakes were off the hook! The calamari was good..not the best I've had, but still very good, and the chicken kelaquin was really good too. I also loved the homemade tatiya's!

There were a lot of other things on the menu that I really wanted to try but just couldn't eat another bite. Next time I go there, I will definitely try the Coconut crusted fried shrimp..YUM!

If you haven't checked out Dr. Jack's yet...you MUST!!! ..and order the crab cakes..you won't be sorry :)~ just save some for me!!!

On Sunday night we had dinner with the missionaries from Youth with a Mission up on Capital Hill. I was introduced to one of the teachers from Dandan who assists with the mission. We had a great night full of great food, games and ended it off with some great music! A couple of the guys played their guitars and Ulu played the Uke while they jammed some Christian songs..

The reason I post a picture of myself at the start of this blog, is because that was the color of my hair Sunday night at dinner...

Today, the teacher I met came by my office for dental insurance. As soon as he came in the door I recognized him and smiled...he looked at me kinda strange, but managed a slight smile back. One of my co-workers entertained him, so I didn't speak to him directly..I caught him looking my way once, so I waved hello (I was way at the back of the office and he was up front). He wears glasses so I'm sure he saw me clearly..but he didn't wave back and looked at me like I was strange. I think he thought I was flirting with him..ha ha ha..He obviously had no clue who I was...He didn't remember me from a couple nights before...I thought that was strange since we did spend several hours of together just a couple nights earlier...then It dawned on me........

This is me as of Wednesday night...I got rid of the blond and went back to my roots..

HE DIDN'T RECOGNIZE ME CAUSE I LOOKED DIFFERENT..HE KNEW ME AS A BLONDE :)

When I finally remembered and realized why he didn't recognize me, I was a little embarrased cause now I know he really must have been thinking to himself, "that lady over there keeps smiling at me and waving..she must be flirting with me.." he he he

It must be the year for Samoan weddings...Last Friday night Mia proposed to Grace. He didn't do it just any old way either...nooooo..He had it all set up. The accomplices (us) would be in the jungle hiding with video camera's n camera's..someone would be in a lead car to signal us to be ready, and then Grace and Mia would come driving by at which time the police would pull them over, have Mia step out of the vehicle, have Grace remaining in the car while they pretend to be frisking Mia (he was actually getting the ring out and getting on his knee) and then have Grace exit the vehicle only to find Mia waiting to propose...The whole set up went down like clock work..Grace was frightened, surprised, but of course she said "YES"!

Here's Mia on his knee..the police officer stepped right in front of Grace as I was about to take the picture..Of course, I was hiding so I couldn't ask him to move..

Open enrollment has been kicking my butt! No lunch breaks, work on Saturdays and longggg days! I'm kinda enjoying all the excitement though. I'm sure I will miss all the commotion once it's over. I have met so many people that I haven't seen in ages, and some new ones. Especially embarrassing was one of my uncles who came over to say hello and I had no clue who he was...I thought it was a retiree trying to get frisky with me..ha ha..Until he announced super loud, "Shame on you, you don't even know your uncle"..Actually, shouldn't that be shame on my mom for keeping me so sheltered and away from my extended family???? ha ha..(just kidding mom!)

We did manage to take an hour off and stop by the driving range on Sunday while trying to get out of a super hot, powerless house. We live next door to the range so it was the closest place to run to. I call this series of pictures "HAMO on the range"..Hamo is slang for Samoans, and these two are on the range..ha ha..I'm so funny! Check out the footwear of choice...gotta love em!
Hopefully I will find some time to take more interesting pictures, and post more interesting things..but for now..I sleep, eat and dream GOVERNMENT GROUP LIFE!

After church on Sunday we took our new missionary freinds, Panapa and Vei sightseeing with their children. The kids had so much fun...and so did we..Saipan is such a gorgeous island!!!! Panapa is from Western Samoan and Vei (his wife) is from Tonga..They kept on remarking on how clean and beautiful Saipan is..
The family at American Memorial Park. I was really disappointed with the museum. Many of the show cases were empty for some reason, and there was no sound or special lighting effects like the last time we were there. It was pretty sad....but anyway...
Last Command post..Jedi and Barbara loves all the old guns, and being able to climb up through the caves..I used to love doing that when I was a kid too...

My BFAM Stanley Iakopo got married this weekend (finally..ha ha)...He and his now wife, Pricilla have two gorgeous children..That's there daughter Filomenaleonisa in the top picture, she was a flower girl.
When I heard the wedding colors were red and purple, I freaked out..what a color combination...but everything actually looked really pretty!
The Bride and Groom...Stanley looked sharp in his Air force uniform and Pricilla looked Gorgeous in her gown (baby bump and all..he he)
My camera started running low on batteries so the pictures got pretty blurry half way through the reception...

We made a traditional Samoan umu this past Sunday. We cooked breadfruit, tapioca, taro, baby back ribs, whole chickens, Fai'ai Pikaki (my spelling is probably way off, but its Mackerel mixed with coconut milk and onions, then poured into the half shell of the coconut and cooked on the rocks..its absolutely DELICIOUS!) and palasami (taro leaves with coconut milk)..Due to my very strict diet I didn't really get to eat much, but everyone else that ate said it was delish! I had fun just helping out...

Nelson is my friend Rona's foster child. He's absolutely adorable!!! I've had them over several times since he was placed with her, and I have even babysat him twice already and It's really making me think hard about signing up to be a foster parent. It's something I have always thought about doing...my fear though is getting attached to the child and then having to give him up...I'm not sure I could do that...and even if I could, it would be so hard!

20 Years...

Tomorrow is our big Reunion Dinner, I probably won't be able to make it..It's Tia's last day on island. She leaves back to Washington and her check in is at 2am in the morning...The class is also having a family picnic on Sunday and I will attend that..Should be interesting to see some of the old classmates...A lot of us still live on Saipan, but haven't seen each other in years..

Angela Yamashita (Now Santos) she's the top HR person over at PIC Hotel, at the back is Eva Sablan (Tina's older sister) who lives in the USA now with her two children, in the middle Jennifer Mafnas (daughter of the late Jesus Mafnas who died in the plane crash with Larry Hillbloom) She's at teacher at Tanapag School and is married to another of our classmates, Richard Villagomez and they have 3 children..and of course ME! In the sweater..I was always trying to do something to make my uniform look different..sweaters, jackets, buttons, etc..I did not want to conform..and I'm pretty sure my skirt wasn't regulatory length either...ha ha

WOW! I Love love love getting packages in the mail! Today I was pleasantly surprise when I got two!!!! One was my order from Joanne.com..man they ship fast!!! I only ordered these last week...I received some new summer colored card stock, a bunch of pretty inks for stamping, some flower brads and a mat stack of pretty pretty paper..I HEART PRETTY PAPER! I can't wait to have some quiet time to play with all my goodies...
A couple weeks ago, I joined in this little Internet game called "Pay it forward" ...You post a blog telling people about paying it forward, then either choose the top three commenter's or randomly draw three to "pay it forward" to. When they receive your package, you in turn "Pay if forward" to three of your commenters...Soooooooo, I was picked and I received a super cool "Pay if Forward" envelope in the mail that included a ton of cute stamped images to use in making my cards, a package of paper scraps, some gorgeous stickers and a pack of watermelon gum..yum!

Weekend Review

Kinda late, but I've been really really busy!

My BFAM (and father..ha ha) Got married on Saturday..
Congratulations Danny & Evita Punimata!

Another one of my BFAM's, Chris Kaipat, arrived Friday morning (3am) to play for the wedding and show his new GF around our lovely island..

Sunday was of course Father's Day..We woke up pretty early..too early for brunch and everyone was starving, so we headed to Jay's for breakfast. Then Ulu took a ride around the island on his Father's Day Gift..After that we met up with the newlyweds for a day of swimming at the PIC...followed by dinner with the family at Truong's and then the carnival..After the carnival we took the kids and Chris n Val for Crepe's at Shirley's..Nothing better than ice cream filled crepe's at midnight : ) That was my last taste of ice cream for a long while too...

It was a busy weekend, but loads of fun as usual.

Tia leaves back to Oregon on Saturday..*tears*

Dear Friends,

We would like to invite you all to join us tonight, Tuesday, June 17, 6PM, at the multi-purpose building in Susupe for a community forum on CUC.

The bottom line is, we are several years away from an alternative source of energy. Whether it be wind, waves, geothermal, solar, or nuclear power, the CNMI won't be harnessing alternative power to run our utilities anytime soon.

So what do we do in the meantime? What are some things our leaders must do to save more businesses from closing because of outrageous utilities costs? What can residents do to keep their power on?

We don't have definitive answers for these and other questions regarding our utilities. But we do have suggestions. We also have a short list of reasonable demands with potential consequences.

There are pessimists and critics out there who scoff at the notion of ordinary citizens coming together. Some have said all we will do is talk, and that nothing will be accomplished by this forum. For those who are frustrated, angry, and have lost faith in anything good coming our way, I want to tell you something that was told to me by a loving parent: "God only helps those who help themselves."

We can sit around and complain and accomplish nothing, or we can come together as ordinary citizens and make extraordinary things happen. As an ordinary citizen, I ask that you join us.

I DID IT! I went in today, signed up and payed my registration for Golds Gym's Saipan's Biggest Looser Contest..Then I did what had to be the most humiliating thing I have ever had to do in my life..I had the "BEFORE" pictures, measurements and weight taken....and I had to have the pictures taken TWICE, cause the first time was too close...The humiliating part is over..now comes the hard part..loosing the weight...The contest starts on monday, which is a good thing since I have a wedding to attend tomorrow and Father's Day on Sunday...one last brunch..he he..

I wanted to look at the "BEFORE" pictures but I was too mortified to ask..I had to sit in the waiting area in my shorts and tank top for 10 minutes waiting for my turn...that was bad enough..*sigh* I just kept trying to focus on the "AFTER" pictures and the possibility of winning $1,500.00 ....wish me luck!

Thankfully, I seem to have shaken this flu really quick..It hit Tia n Ulu for two weeks, but I managed to get through it in just 4 days : ) Yeah!!!

I have the flu...Ulu and Tia both have had it for almost two weeks..They went in and got antibiotics and cough medicine and they still have it..but they are getting better, and I am getting worse..I had being sick! There is so much going on and I'm stuck in bed missing it : ( *ACHOO*

Actually, I just love that movie, so I wanted to use that line...What I'm really looking for is One Pass miles...I'm just about to purchase an ubber expensive ticket for my baby girl back to Seattle, and I was thinking if I could find someone willing to sell their One Pass miles for a good deal maybe I could also save some money by purchasing them???? Anyhoo...I would need 60,000 miles and you could email me if your interested with how much you would be willing to sell them for...you can email me at thunter@moylans.net if you or anyone you know is interested...I would need to know right away because with One pass seating is limited, but I did check on line and there are seats available with one pass on the date she wants to leave...

Anyhoo....Just putting this out there for anyone who may want to make some money.

Kinda funny...Many contract workers who thought they were ineligible to receive an economic stimulus check were pleasantly surprised when they found one in the mail last Friday..including a Friend of ours' housekeeper...

The funny part, my fiance didn't get a check, he got a letter telling him he had thirty days to report to Rev and Tax and show proof that he was a US citizen and resident of Saipan or he wouldn't receive a check...Of course he is a US citizen as well as a going on 4 year resident of Saipan..so we trekked to Rev and Tax to find out what was going on...needless to say the place was a MAD HOUSE! Fortunately we found someone to assist us right away, and they took a copy of Ulu's passport and we were on our way...

I did ask, why he was singled out to have to come in to proof he was a US citizen when so many others are not..they couldn't give me a clear answer and said it was probably because of his name???? Hrmmmm...

That's what he gets for having a first name for a last name (Henry) I guess...

well, just thought that was kinda funny.... Did anyone else get that letter?

Savali Talalemotu, pictured here with one of his classmates..as you can see, at 13 years and 6' tall, he is larger than the average boy..ha ha...He graduated with NJHS honors and was awarded the Presidential Gold Award for Academic Excellence! He now heads to High School.
Mirika Talalemotu, pictured here with her Grandmother. She graduated #3 in a class of 120. She took the top honor for Science as well as certificate for "A" honor roll and Presidential Gold award for acedemic excellence. She's awesome!

As you can probably tell, I am a very proud momma right now!

Every Sunday I read the new post secrets. When I come across postcards that
could be about me, I start to wonder if someone I know sent one in about me..I immediately make a mental note of everyone I know who could have possibly sent it, and then I go over that list and cross off everyone who probably has no clue what "Post Secrets" is, then I cross of everyone who I think would be too lazy to take the time to write out a postcard and pay .43 cents to send it...by then my list is usually blank and I realize, the post card wasn't ment for me...ha ha ha..Today I came across this one and I just had to laugh!!!

Maybe this one was ment for me??? Hrmmmm..ha ha

My baby's back. Well, she isn't really my "baby"..she's my first born. After a year and a half stint in the Coast Guard, she decided (actually, it was kinda decided for her) that the Coast Guard was not the life for her..so she was honorably discharged. I'm soooo happy to have her home! If only for a short while : ( She will soon return to Washington to start her college life...In the meantime, I plan to spend as much time with her as I can..I have really missed her!

Jay Nelson

Director - Global Ocean Legacy for Pew Environment Group. Ocean Legacy originated as an outgrowth of work done by Pew in 2005–2006 to support the creation of a fully protected marine reserve in the northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Partners supporting Ocean Legacy include Pew, the Sandler Family Supporting Foundation, the Oak Foundation, and the Robertson Foundation. Inspired by this success, the Pew-managed Ocean Legacy project is dedicated to establishing, globally, over the next decade, at least three to five large, world-class, no-take marine reserves. Ocean Legacy marine reserves will provide ocean-scale ecosystem benefits and help conserve our global marine heritage.

William Aila

William is a long time harbormaster on the Waianae coast of Oahu and commercial fisherman. He is well-known as an advocate for indigenous Hawaiian rights works closely with the group Na Imi Pono. In 2006 he ran for Governor of Hawai'i in the Democratic primary. William was intimately involved in advocating for the protection of the NW Hawaiian Islands for Native Hawaiian cultural and religious reasons from the late 1990's through today. He remains active in decisions about the management of the NW Hawaiian Islands today. William is very familiar with fisheries management in the Pacific through his more than ten year’s service on various Wespac advisory panels.
