Friday Food Fest IV

I'm giving you a quickie today since Im busy, busy, busy!

An Apetizer that I absolutely love love love! It incorporates two of my favorite things, Bacon and Mushrooms...YUM!

Bacon Wrapped Mushrooms

Recipe Ingredience

25 slices bacon or more if you like :)
30- 50 mushrooms depending on the size

Recipe Method

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Cut bacon strips in half (Its easiest to do this when the bacon is still slightly frozen and just cut right through the middle of the pack)

Depending on the size of your mushrooms, you can choose to cut them in half or leave them whole. I normally use the button type mushrooms they sell over at Joeten in the little blue styrofoam. Sometimes I get some that are so big, i break the stem off and chop the top in half and I end up with three peiced to wrap. Most of the time, I pop the stem off, wrap it and then wrap the whole top part and end up with two pieces. It's really up to you. But whatever you decided Don't make the mushroom too small. You want a nice juicy chunk of mushroom in there and the mushroom shrinks considerably when cooked!

Wrap each mushroom with a strip of bacon, and secure with a toothpick. Arrange the mushrooms on a medium baking sheet.

Bake approximately 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until the bacon is evenly brown.

Serve hot.

I normally make this dish as an appetizer at family gatherings. Everyone in my family loves it and half of it usually dissapears before it even reaches the table, so make sure to make plenty!

Bon Appetit!

Who dat' be???

I took my staff to an appreciation luncheon today and just as I was about to bite into my spicy sauteed prawn, I looked up and guess who I saw behind the glass in the private room???

sblogger...see, if you look real close right behind Dorthy's hubbys grey hair, you can see him, well part of his face at least, behind the glass in the blue shirt..

Im officially PAPARAZI.

Thursday Thoughts IV

Fun question today..

If you won a million dollars and had to spend ALL of it in one month— every last penny, what would you spend it on?

DO TELL!

Playing along with Sbloggers meme :

Sblogger has started a meme. The rules are as follows :

The Rules:
1. Once you are tagged, you must write up short review for 5 blogs that you read regularly, including the blog of the person that tagged you.

2. Leave a comment tagging the blogs you've reviewed, telling them to continue the meme.

3. If someone writes a review of your blog, you must respond by writing a review of their blog (unless you've already written one for them).

4. After a few days, you must write a post compiling what all the other bloggers say about you, good or bad, true or untrue

Ok, so here I go....Aside from "Kirida", and Harry whom I met through blogging, I have never met any of the other bloggers listed below in person, but through reading thier blogs I feel like I've formed some sort of bond with them and consider them my friends :)

bigsoxfan: Reading his blog transports me to another world. I can't imagine living in a place that gets that cold or where I couldn't find a decent pork chop but I enjoy his adventures and the way he shares them with us through his blog stories and pictures. He has a beautiful family too!

Glen558: I read Glen before I read the news papers. He always has his take on the headlines of the day and he's always spot on. Plus, I love his body of art photos! They have inspired me to save up to buy several gallons of body paint for my fiance to paint the palauan flag across my ass.....ha ha ha ha (sorry mom, i'm joking!)

Kirida : My sister in laws sister, so we're related :) She's got mad writing skills!!! and a gorgeous son! I love her blog!

The Beachcomber :Great blogs about spondylus and its significance in the local culture. He makes some beautiful necklaces and shares them with us through his pictures and stories of their meaning. I have no clue who he is, but I'm a fan of his work!

Harry : Although he is sadly MIA and will not participate in this meme, I have to include him because it was his blog that inspired me to start blogging. I am sorely missing his underwater photos...most especially the turtles and hope he finishes up his book and gets back to blogging again soon! In the meantime Ive been lurking on his wife Kelly's blog since she recently posted some turtle shots :)

Saipan Blogger : He tagged me. I may not agree with everything he says (especially when it pertains to my bro and his girl or correcting people's grammer :) but I enjoy reading his blog and I truley admire the dedication he has toward keeping our island beautiful and all the hours of voluntary time he puts into to Beautify projects. There are a lot of people who talk about keeping this island beautiful, but very few who will put their money where their mouth is.

OK...Tag your it!

PS: spell check is still not working so excuse my typo's, misspelled words, etc...

WHERE'S BONI?????

http://sommysmommy.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Boni has been missing in blogger land for awhile now. Should we put up a reward
for her return?????

Yo BONI! Where are you?????

The ranting and ravings of an angry divorced mom...

Ok, here’s the situation :

Last week, my son Savali asked me if he could have a dog. Apparently his friend's dog had puppies (pitbull/rott mix) and he had offered to give him one of the pups. I immediately said, NO! No way, no how!

My main reason for saying no was that a couple years ago him and his sister asked for a dog. I held off and held off and then finally I gave in and on Valentines day I brought home a $500.00 Maltese for them. Why a Maltese? Because they had both said they wanted a dog that would stay "small and cute" and never get really big. So I sprung for the Maltese and brought it home. For the first 3 months they adored that dog, brushed it daily, pampered it, took her for walks, etc. etc....but after that..little by little the fascination over little Coco (that was her name) started to wear off. Soon I was having to order them to take her for walks, we ended up having to shave her because her hair got all tangled up and got sticker burs in it, and before you knew it, I was the one taking her for walks. Eventually I ended up giving Coco away to a lady who lived next door to us and who takes wonderful care of her. After that, I said..no more dogs!

Soooo, this weekend the kids went to visit their dad. On Tuesday afternoon when I arrived home from work, I found my son sitting on the couch with this grin on his face. He says to me, "mom, you know how I got such awesome grades on my report card" and I was like, "yeah" and he says, "well, don't you think I deserve a reward for that" (you see where this is going right) so I say, "yes, that’s why I am taking you to Guam this weekend" and he says, "ummm, but can I keep him" and at the same time removes his bag to reveal a little brown and black pitbull/rott puppy.

AGHH!!!!!!

I said, no dogs!

Apparently the friends father is a friend of Savali's father and he offered him (Savali's dad) a dog too, and Savali's dad took him up on his offer.

So of course, I had to explain to him that we can not keep a dog in the house. Not only is it against the lease agreement but the our house has carpeting and the puppy is not potty trained, and while he is at school the puppy is going to do his thing all over the place. We can't put him outside either because he might run into the road (like Moli) and right now we do not have a leash or dog house. And on top of that, remember what happened with Coco???

So after my long lecture (the abbreviated version above)...my son starts crying (which he tried to hide from me by hiding out in his room the rest of the night) ..and I end up being the BAD GUY!

What was his dad thinking? He did not even call me to ask me if it was ok for Vali to have a dog and bring him home??? He didn't consider who was going to pay for the vet bills, food, pet care, etc....No, he didn't! He simply told Savali to bring it with him to mom's house cause his house is carpeted and he doesn't have time to take care of the puppy during the week.

WHAT???? Why in the heavens would you accept a puppy from someone that you can't take care of????? Oh, I forgot, you have an x wife that will take care of it for you. UGH!

I can't help but think that I should go out and buy a billy goat and have Vali bring it over to his Dad's house next weekend and announce that its his new pet and mom wants him to keep it at his house or maybe a potbelly pig.....

ok, I'm done venting now...and how are you doing????

*Update* Flights to Guam or DUH!

Guess what? Out of the blue I just decided to check Continental on line..I know, I know, your saying DUH! is'nt that what most people would do??? Well, I guess I did things ass backwards because I called my travel agent who gave me the $236.00 price per ticket AND told me that was the cheapest continental fare available...and I took her word for it. Anyway, where was I, oh yeah, so I went on line this morning and decided to check the continental site to see if that was indeed the cheapest fare..and guess what?? It wasn't! On line I was able to book round trip on Cape Air for $156.00 including tax..How cool is that? On top of that my kids tickets were even cheaper..My little girls was only $114.oo plus tax....All in all I paid about $620.00 for 4 tickets...which is wayyyy cheaper than the $944.00 I originally was quoted and the $732.00 Freedom Air rate...

So for everyone else like me, who usually takes the easy way out and calls the travel agent to make reservations for you, next time take the extra few minutes and do it yourself on line..or at least check on the fares directly with the carrier because it will probably save you some bucks!

I know, I know....DUH!
