Seaweed, sand & the sun setting...

Our office is located about 100 feet or so from the beach in Garapan. When we closed office yesterday at 5:30 as we were all leaving, the tide was very low and you could distinctly smell the saltwater and seaweed in the air...My co-workers were all complaining. "Ewww, the water stinks", "Smells like dead fish", "I hate low tide"....I turned to them and started laughing and took a deep breathe! Mmmmmmmmmm! One of them looked at me like I was crazy..and said, "boss, whats wrong with your nose?" I replied, "nothing is wrong with my nose. I love that smell. That smell reminds me that we live within feet of a beautiful ocean. A place where millions of people would love to live and many people pay thousands of dollars to see. And for us it's there, right in front of us, everyday and it's FREE! It reminds me of how lucky I am. So breathe it in girls and stop complaining." They all paused for a second in silence. I know they were thinking about what I had just said, because the complaining stopped and the silence was only broken when my favorite employee exclaimed, "No shit!" (ha, ha) And then we all walked to our cars to leave...I took the long way home, drove slower than usual, turned my ac off and rolled my windows down and breathed in the beautiful saltwater n seaweed smell. As I watched the sun set in the lagoon, it actually brought tears to my eyes thinking about how lucky I truly am...

I remember (in younger careless days) when someone ripped a stinky fart they would say, "ahh, smell the ocean air".

Good post, Tami, and a timely reminder of all we have to be thankful for.
